Had a salad after going out. I compulsively bought some pretzels so I put them in the salad. It was a pretty good solution.

We did okay with dinner—bean salad and some light cole slaw with dinner, and we bought a chicken at the supermarket. Better than going out and eating. Writing the next day I still feel puffed up with travel and salt. Too many pretzels and “veggie straws.”

Rode my bike a half-hour to get some Turkish food on King’s Highway. Nervous the whole way there. Fine the whole way back. Anxiety is an odd beast.

I am lately more aware of my surroundings. I noticed today that the average well-proportioned, gym-toned American male on the subway listens to shitty music on his iPod. Also that this day is the point where cutting myself off from self-medication with food and alcohol means I begin to exhibit all of the symptoms of clinical depression, namely:

  • Difficulty concentrating;
  • Trapped in prison of own devising;
  • Irritability, restlessness;
  • Cats judgmental;
  • No laughter in Chocolate: The Consuming Passion by Sandra Boynton; paired with
  • Desire to read The Tunnel;
  • Difficulty concentrating;
  • Three-second consideration of train;
  • Difficulty concentrating.

My wife, having checked the calories available and made me dinner accordingly.

Love grinding away until it breaks the skin.
